About the maniACTs

WHO WE ARE.

We are a student theatre group. Although we aim for a high level of professionalism, all of us are in it for the love of English-language theatre.

We are from all walks of life. Although we are the English Department’s drama group of the University of Freiburg, anyone with a passion for theatre is welcome to join us.

We are a family. Although each production brings new faces into the spotlight, once you join us there will always be a place for you in our group.

WHAT WE DO.

Our main business is putting on a great new production every semester. This means lots of hard work on and off stage – and plenty of different capacities in which you can join.

We also read plays together, have social events, and every once in a while, we throw a smashing party.

HOW WE WORK.

We have a new director every semester who has full creative control over the production and finds their cast and crew that they want to work with at our open auditions.

To make sure things run smoothly across semesters, the maniACTs council helps to manage everything from finances to PR, props, costumes, stage, and tech.

A BIT OF HISTORY.

The maniACTs have been around for longer than any of our active members remember. The group has existed continuously since at least the 1980s. This makes us by far the oldest university drama group in Freiburg.
